COST EFFECTIVE COMPOSITES

What you are seeing in these photos is more than merely a piece of strange plastic. This is a composite material with good strength and low weight. It is also less expensive to produce than Fiberglass composites. This material was constructed by laminating layers of standard, inexpensive fabric from a typical fabric shop. The layers are bonded with a standard Epoxy resin, which was aided with heat curing. Why post this on Carbon Fiber Architecture.com? Well as we all know Carbon Fiber is related to different types of fabrics, nylons, and rayons, other PAN species. But these images are posted for viewership in order to explain how the wonderful aspects of composite materials, e.g.: good strength, and low weight can be obtained without such a high cost as we are accustomed to with fiberglass, kevlar, and carbon. Of course this material does not possess the strength characteristics of Carbon. But it is beautiful in its economy. This material does excel over conventional carbon fiber composite in two respects, these being improved impact resistance, and greater flexibility.
